Susan- I wrote this in notation using a software program called Musescore, then exported it via MIDI into a synthesizer (which unfortunately didn’t model strings very well). Much of the piece, including the bass ostinato and several of the voices, were random/aleatoric. I suggested my student at the time try to write a short tonal aleatoric piece, and I figured I can’t ask her to do it without doing it myself.
