Don’t fear
My bags are packed
I’ll try
to keep quiet
tonight
so you can sleep
when they
come to take me
away

POETRY, RANDOM THOUGHTS AND STUFF LIKE THAT....
The power of language, right here.
I had just heard Shoshtakovich 7. Got home, the kids were in bed. Was thinking about job security issues and other minor paranoias. Then I heard a thud from downstairs. Maybe it was the cat- but I have had someone stalking me recently (really)- cr@p, was that her?!? I checked it out and nothing.
Couldn’t sleep after that. Thought of Shoshtakovich waiting to be taken to the gulag, and wrote this poem.
I wasn’t aware of it at the time but there’s a strong influence of Ryokan in this poem. He’s a Japanese poet and Zen master I used to emulate when I was learning to write. The paranoia’s not Ryokan but the gentle loving man who wouldn’t wake his wife when he’s being taken away so she could sleep- that’s all him.
Thank you!
