Came Here for You (rough demo)
Just finished tonight- my first original song in 26 years. This one has been sitting on the shelf for three years, music written and basic structure laid out, patiently waiting for the lyrics to come. If it looks good in the daylight maybe I’ll do a polished arrangement.
What are you waiting for, Mark? 🙂
I had some *serious* writer’s block.
*chuckles* That is a lot of years for writer’s block 🙂
Tell me about it…
Now I think that question should be directed the other way….
Hopefully the next one won’t take quite so long.
So do I! I’d like to be around to hear it.
I expect doing a finished song is the final assignment in this course, so I expect there’ll be another one. I have some ideas floating around that haven’t crystallized yet.
The sticking point for me is lyrical writing. I’ve never been comfortable… it took a long time to be comfortable with my “voice-” and I’m still trying to find it, really. That’s what this blog is all about.
Well you seem to be doing okay. I read earlier a quote , I think it was Hafiz…“A poet is someone who can pour light into a cup, then raise it to nourish your beautiful parched, holy mouth.”
I dig that! and thank you 🙂
🙂
So, reverse it- what are you waiting for? 🙂
Mark Herron wrote a set of lyrics based upon one of my poems here that I’ll probably set to music- but that feels very different- it’s his voice, not mine, coming through. Look at the difference between this song and “Love, Love, Love” and you see what I mean.
This one was stubborn- it wouldn’t reveal itself to me.
I’ve really enjoyed your blog, and have nominated you for a Liebster Award: http://undeaddad.com/2013/03/10/big-thanks-1-liebster-award/
Thank you very much, CJ! I’ve really enjoyed yours as well.
really enjoyed this Mark — keep at it!
Thank you! I think it needs a bit of work, but I intend to record a polished version with multiple instruments. Just haven’t had time yet. This is probably my final for the songwriting course.
One of my class reviewers commented “Took the easy way out- but I guess that’s rock and roll.” Seriously. Go figure.
