POETRY, RANDOM THOUGHTS AND STUFF LIKE THAT....
My children didn’t see the news of the awful tornadoes in Oklahoma tonight. My oldest saw that fireflies came out for this first time this spring, and my two daughters were out trying to catch them. My mind went back to August 29, 1990 when I saw the F5 tornado that killed 29 people in Plainfield and Joliet, IL, and I couldn’t help but feel for all those families who are grieving in Oklahoma tonight, who would not get to see their children chase fireflies again.
I was reminded of this poem by Ryokan:
For Children Killed In A Smallpox Epidemic
When spring arrives
From every tree tip
Flowers will bloom,
But those children
Who fell with last autumn’s leaves
Will never return.
