Sonnet 18 (demo) by William Shakespeare, adapted and arranged by Mark Herron and Mark Snyder. Performed by Mark Snyder.
A rough sketch, quickly done to get the basic form of the song down.
Very, very cool, Mark and Mark. It reminds me a bit of what Sting did with Sonnet #130, “My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun. But you use much more of the Bard’s actual words than Sting did. I will definitely be watching soundcloud to see how it develops. But so far, Bravo!
Thanks Ray. It was Mark’s inspiration, and he adapted the sonnet into song form. He is a magician with words. I fleshed out the music late last night. Very unpolished but you get the idea where it’s going.
Reblogged this on Written Spaces.
I like this! All around nice and I like where the bridge goes too. Well done (I just rearranged stuff as we learned from Pat Pattison and added some refrain – it’s The Bard’s words!) Lyrics are here: http://theouterringblog.blogspot.com/2013/06/do-not-pass-away-song-of-sonnet-18.html
You done good on this, Mark. Recording it was a late-night rush job to sketch it out… I plan to re-record when I have time to do a better job of it.
Interesting, unusual progressions, with a distinct bittersweetness so appropriate for the lyric/ feeling. {My favorite Shakespeare-thing of all time:)} Bass line suitably chunky and round and melodic, pretty. (So it’s not too minor/depressing. :)) Nice !
Thanks, Diana! I thought you would like this. As I mentioned above, it was a late-night rush job. I plan to do a better job of it when I can take my time.
