My Father’s Day present. My kids took me for a day where I could paint plein air, which I’ve never done before. I wanted to paint @ Morrow Mountain but the storm damage was bad (like a hurricane) and the park was closed. Instead, we drove down to Wagram and painted the Lumber River.
I’m tired, I’m covered in paint, I got fajitas in my belly, and my girls are right here. Best. Father’s. Day. Ever.

I spent the day with my kids at the North Carolina Museum of Art. They had (among other things) a special exhibition of still life paintings from Cezanne, Renoir, O’Keefe, etc. A *lot* of paintings of fruit bowls and baskets.
Toward the end of the exhibition there was a monitor playing this film. After viewing it (twice) we went backwards and looked at all those other fruit bowls again. As you might expect, the film had a dramatic effect on how I saw the other paintings.
