Gehenna in Connecticut was where
worshippers of the idol Moloch sacrificed children
to sate Friday morning’s massacre in Newtown, Conn.
In the new town which the Romans called Carthage,
the god who got things done bore the name Moloch,
who was perhaps the giver of life
though it is all a list of infernal powers and potentates.
Moloch, of course, was a blood-thirsty deity
who demanded his followers move to Wilmington with the kids.
Whatever form Moloch manifests himself today—
the appeasement … a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Children screaming under the stairways! Boys sobbing in armies!
And thou shalt let thy seed pass through the fire to Moloch.
