This is a piece of “music” played by me on an Android app that simulates the prepared piano sound of John Cage. Rather than going into detail explaining this, I’d like to refer you over to Angela at poetunderconstruction, who has already done a terrific job of this. (She also writes a damn fine blog).
I got reintroduced to John Cage at ModPo. Now I can’t get enough of the guy. Thanks Angela for posting about the piano app.
Mark ~ Yay! You got it to go! I enjoyed it – yours had a cool percussion feel. Thank you for the kind words about the blog. Oh, and the heads up about the two links. Hope to check them out tomorrow, especially the music. ~ a
As far as Ligeti, I suggest listening to Atmospheres, Lux Aeterna, and Aventures for 3 Singers and 7 Instrumentalists. I think all three pieces can be found on Youtube. Hope you enjoy them!
I think when I did this, somewhere in the back of my mind “Echoes” by Pink Floyd was sneaking in… that repeated C7 pinging serves as an anchor in the same way- and, now that I think of it, Richard Wright did something funny to his piano too (probably a Cage influence).
This is most cool. Your composition is wonderful. I’ll have to try this.
Do try it. It’s a lot of fun.
