I have been nominated by hillbillyzen13 for the Versatile Blogger Award. I can’t express how surprised and grateful I am… given the experimental nature of this blog, I don’t expect a lot. Thank you.
Go check out her blog- it’s really terrific.
I would like to nominate Angela at the Yellow House Cafe/Poet Under Construction, Rob Holland, Masqua’s Art, Jennifer over at Quirkin’ It, Leanne Cole Photography, A.J. Wagoner over at Cleaver of God, sethsnap, Susan Scheid over at Prufrock’s Dilemma, and Daina’s Book. Each of you inspire me in your own way.
I’ll let Hillbillyzen explain the award. She does a thorough job of it on her site.
I understand part of the deal is that I am supposed to share seven interesting things about myself. OK, here goes, in no particular order:
1. When I was very young, maybe 4, I met Ray Bolger (or so I’m told- my memory of this is very vague). I thought he actually was the Scarecrow.
2. I hadn’t written a (creative) word in three years prior to starting this blog.
3. My grandfather (almost certainly- the circumstantial evidence is strong but proof is impossible) was part of a secret detachment in World War II that assisted the men of the Manhattan Project to launch the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The only war story I ever remember him telling from my childhood was the sinking of the USS Indianapolis; she had just delivered the uranium cores for Little Boy when she sank. My grandfather may have gone aboard her to get the uranium.
4. The longest (single-day) bicycle ride I ever did was 132 miles.
5. Tonight I started writing a piece for double bass, bass guitar, and two electric guitars that, while tonal, was created using a random number generator. As it is right now, it’s a weird mix of Bach, Steve Reich, and modernism in the Locrian mode, which in itself is odd. If/when I complete it and record all the parts, I’ll find a way to post it here so you can hear it.
6. I fired my bass teacher earlier this year because God told her husband I just might be a serial killer. Evidently “God” as her husband knows him isn’t infallible or omniscient.
7. I’ve lost count but I’ve been on a first-name basis with at least six murderers.
